Rambling All Over | BBC Countryfile Ramble 2018

2 min readWalking

If you love the outdoors like us then why not turn your weekend walk into a helping hand. The BBC Countryfile Ramble will bring people together in the outdoors throughout the autumn, with each step taken helping raise money for disadvantaged young people across the UK.

The fourth annual Ramble will challenge everyone to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and the incredible British scenery . . . and put one foot in front of the other in aid of BBC Children in Need. This year the national target is a whopping 18,505. If you can manage just one of those yourself then you’ll be helping those who need it the most.

Wear The Bear

To support BBC Children in Need as well as keeping ramblers warm, we are once against offering you the chance to buy the official ramble hat.

It’s cosy, it’s soft, it’s bright enough to be seen even in the worst weather. Best of all, 50% of the sales from each bobble bought will be donated to BBC Children in Need.

Be sure to get yourself a piece of this walking season’s brightest style: an insta-ready bobble phenomenon that shouts out your fundraising credentials.

We're doing our bit

Once again, the team here at Ultimate Outdoors will be braving the chills and spills to help. Last year we strode up Holcombe Hill in Lancashire. When we weren’t walking we were shaking our buckets. We were blown away by the generosity of passers-by who donated plenty of pennies. The hats probably helped! They do catch the eye.

This year we’re going one better, pitting our stores and head office against one another in a friendly competition to find out who can rack up the most miles and money.

Get Ready to Ramble

A day outdoors shouldn’t be taken too lightly though. It’s only fun if you’re safe and we encourage everyone to tackle a goal that’s within their capabilities. Whether you walk a mile or ten, you are still doing your bit.

Remember to check the weather too. Walking in the cold and rain can be great fun if you’re prepared, but no one wants to be the person who comes home like a sponge. A waterproof jacket and walking boots, a decent fleece and that all-important bobble hat are key ingredients for a good, safe walk without drama.

We recommend at least the following:

Let's Get Together

So if you’ve got itchy feet or a spring in your step make sure to look up your nearest Countryfile Ramble. They will be taking place around the country throughout the autumn. Put a date in your diary for the ones led by Countryfile presenters on the weekend of 6-7th October.

It’s all about taking part and working with friends and friends-yet-to-be, about helping those who could use a helping hand and taking steps toward a better society. Don’t forget your fundraising page.
